Oliver Wood has posted a lovely post about White Nancy on Bollington Photos. As a local resident, I often get asked by coworkers and visitors what the history of White Nancy is. All of my information comes from Tim Boddington’s informative page.
My own most popular White Nancy image is a bit crude, as you might have noticed. The HDR processing brings out the graffiti even more. Thankfully, a crew of volunteers got together in May, 2008 to repaint White Nancy. Thomas Lewis (chief ladder-holder) photographed the event, with this iconic photograph of the painters currently on display in the Bollington Town Hall.
Given that White Nancy is iconic in itself (recently voted most loved local landmark in Macclesfield Borough), it’s not surprising there are so many derivatives of her! You can find her in themed greeting cards at the Bollington Printshop to obscure online galleries of part-time artists to many, many tourist photographs. I myself sketch the local landscape with White Nancy digitally and in watercolour quite often. It turns the rambling hills of the Peak District into something that is identifiably home.
If you would like to share your own White Nancy photos, Bollington Photos would love to see them. Just upload them to flickr and post. What’s your ‘Nancy View’ ?
